My Story

Vanessa Kerr is a dedicated advocate for social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a profound commitment to empowering underserved communities within and through education. A Teach For America alumna, Vanessa taught English and Ethnic Studies in the vibrant but underserved Eastside of San Jose, CA, for over ten years. Her classrooms are not just spaces for learning; they act as platforms for fostering critical thinking and instilling a sense of social responsibility in her students. Vanessa's pedagogy is deeply rooted in the principles of social justice, aiming to inspire her students to become active, informed citizens who contribute positively to their communities. In 2018, Vanessa Kerr earned her Master's degree in Urban Education Policy and Administration from Loyola Marymount University. This academic achievement further solidified her expertise and knowledge in the realm of education policy, providing her with valuable insights to effect meaningful change in the pursuit of social justice and DEI in education.
