My Story
Dr. Sharon Goldfarb has dedicated her 35-year career to serving vulnerable populations. She began her nurse practitioner practice as clinical director of the first HIV clinic in Harlem in 1993 and later worked on mobile medical vans, delivering primary care to underserved groups such as the unhoused, individuals with mental health and substance abuse disorders, sex workers, and those without legal documentation. Dr. Goldfarb taught at Columbia University, where she played a central role in improving retention rates within nursing programs, resulting in higher graduation rates and increased job placements for Columbia’s students. She played a crucial role in addressing health disparities in East Contra Costa and spearheaded initiatives to promote wellness and equity. Dr.Sharon Goldfarb joined UCSF School of Nursing where she trained a generation of Family Nurse Practitioner students, providing mentorship and support to students from under-represented groups to ensure their ability to thrive as nurses and leaders. She has served in a range of leadership positions in nursing organizations at the state and national level. Dr. Goldfarb is a highly sought-after thought leader on addressing social determinants of health and health inequity; most recently has been actively involved in the national “This is Our Shot” social media campaign aimed at reducing vaccine hesitancy. She has made significant contributions to the field through publications, presentations, and the development of new technological tools such as smartphone apps for use by nurses.
